Anti Slip Tiles

Anti slip tiles

Solus Ceramics provides a range of innovative commercial non slip floor tiles ideal for swimming pools, leisure centres, food production environments, kitchen and bathroom areas and more. Commercial flooring tiles must adhere to HSE anti-slip guidelines, and Solus Ceramics can help ensure that your floors are not only legally compliant but also hard-wearing, durable and easy to clean.

Anti slip floor tiles are essential in the prevention of injuries caused by slips, trips and falls. Solus Ceramics can provide a range of anti-slip commercial tiles to help prevent costly accidents on clients' premises. Manufacturers and suppliers have a duty to ensure that their products are safe, and all Solus Ceramic's anti-slip tiles undergo stringent testing. Below you'll find some information about the various tests:

The ramp test involves someone walking back and forth over flooring covered in water and/or oil at an increasing angle of inclination in order to measure slip. This is tested with both barefoot and shod foot. The angle at which slip occurs generates an R rating between R9 to R13 - with R13 providing the highest level of slip resistance. The DIN (German National Standard) version of this test utilises oil of a specified viscosity, with the subject wearing safety footwear (or in the case of barefoot testing, a soap solution is used). Results are then classified as A, B or C, with A being the lowest and C being the highest.

The pendulum test is designed mimic the action of a slipping foot. It is based on a swinging dummy heel (pendulum), which skims the surface of an area of flooring. The higher the pendulum value (known as Slip Resistance Value or SRV), the higher the level of slip resistance. Tiles with a rating of more than 36 are considered to have the best slip resistance. The Pendulum Test is the preferred method of testing in the UK and is recognised by the HSE. The added benefit of full portability is also helpful in the evaluation of tiles in situ. Tiles are tested in both wet and dry conditions, although generally wet readings are regarded higher.

V ratings. A tile's V rating is important in determining its level of water dispersal. It is particularly useful in swimming pool areas. The V rating indicates a tile's ability to displace water. V0 is a low rating, with V10 being the highest.

Solus Ceramics provides many anti slip floor tiles, including pinhead, matt, riven and structured finishes. Whilst all these tiles provide excellent anti-slip properties, ratings between them vary. For example, a structured tile has an R12 rating (high), a barefoot rating of C (also high) but no V rating - meaning it does not disperse water well. Different tiles are suited to different purposes. For example, a pinhead tile is good for a swimming pool due to its high barefoot rating. Food production environments and milk and cheese processing plants demand an R rating of at least 12, so riven or structured finished tiles are ideal.
